The Chabad Jewish Center invites the entire community to celebrate Chanukah at a public Menorah lighting ceremony. The event will take place on December 13th at 6:30pm at Gazebo Park on Main St. in Chester.
After the lighting, everyone is invited for latkes, sufganiot, music, raffles and more.
Chanukah, a celebration for all time, is highlighted by the kindling of the Menorah each night of the holiday. “It is a holiday that enriches our lives with the light of tradition” says Rabbi Yaacov Shusterman, director of the Chabad Jewish Center. “In ancient times our ancestors rededicated the Temple in Jerusalem with the Menorah. Today, we rededicate ourselves to making this world a better and brighter place.”
Chanukah also propagates the universal message that ultimately good will prevail over evil, freedom over oppression and light over darkness.
Our featured movie is “Angels Sing” starring Harry Connick, Jr. and Willie Nelson. As a child, Michael Walker wished every day could be Christmas. That is, until a tragic accident crushed his holiday spirit. Thirty years later, Michael still can’t muster any joy for the holidays, despite encouragement from his playful wife and well-intentioned parents.
