Health Screening
May 17 @ 7:00 am – 9:00 am

The Bernards Township Health Department is conducting the Annual Health Screening on Thursday, May 17 from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at St. James Church located at 184 S. Finley Ave. in Basking Ridge. In-person pre-registration is required at the Bernards Township Health Department at 262 S. Finley Avenue in Basking Ridge from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday until May 16.

This screening includes comprehensive blood work such as a lipid profile measuring total, HDL and LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, as well as blood pressure check, urinalysis, and stool hemocult. Cost for the screening is $35 for residents and $45 for non-residents with an additional fee for optional Thyroid Screening and for measure of Hemoglobin A1c.

The Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) test may be used to screen for and diagnose diabetes and pre-diabetes in adults. A non-diabetic person will have an A1c result less than 5.7%. For most diabetics, it is recommended that they aim to keep their hemoglobin A1c below 7%. Results should always be discussed with your healthcare provider.

This year the FIT (Fecal Immunochemical Test) is offered for an additional cost of $18 for residents and $20 for non-residents. This test is easy to do and requires samples on only one day and is done in place of the hemoccult test. It is a more sensitive test and detects only human blood, not blood or dye from food.

The Annual Health Screening is a great way to identify health concerns to ensure optimal and timely treatment. In addition, if someone has elevated blood lipids, diabetes, hypertension or another chronic health issue, this is a great way to check their progress in addition to their yearly physical with their doctor. There is a $5 processing fee for cancelled appointments.  For more information call (908) 204-2520 or visit www.bernardshealth.org.

May 28 @ 11:00 am – 1:00 pm

Annual Memorial Day Commemoration May 28, 11am, Maysey Memorial, Main St. Chester Borough, NJ

Chester will remember those in the Armed Forces who died while serving their country on “Decoration Day,” or as it is better known today, “Memorial Day.” People from the community will gather on Main Street in Chester Borough to watch the procession, listen to inspiring stories, hear moving speeches and patriotic musical arrays. Participants will also experience the rattling rifle salute and moving taps, as we honor those who gave all for our country, on this very important day. The event will take place on Monday, May 28th, 2018 at 11am at Maysey Memorial/Memorial Park in the center of town and will feature Mayor Janet Hoven as the Master of Ceremonies, with remarks from members of the American Legion Post 342 Chester, and Mayor Marcia Asdal from Chester Township. The West Morris Community Band under the direction of Gary Quam will provide music for the event along with vocal soloist & Chester resident, Mary Bolio. Our own Chester Volunteer Fire Company #1, Chester Police, and Chester Volunteer First Aid Squad will be present to honor our veterans, along with local scout troops sporting color guard and full uniform attire. Members of the American Legion will perform the ceremonious Laying of the Wreaths and Roll Call of Chester Fallen Soldiers. The event is sponsored by the Borough of Chester in conjunction with American Legion Post 342, Chester. Anyone who served or is currently serving in the Armed Forces is invited to walk in the procession to pay their thanks and should gather at the Gazebo on Main Street at 10:45am. For more details about the event please contact Recreation Director at: recreation@chesterborough.org
